Interreg-Project "Biodiv-grazing"

What is this project about?

The near-natural management of open landscapes through extensive grazing has become rare. By reintroducing such forms of management on the Upper Rhine, the aim is to preserve wetlands and thus make a significant contribution to the protection of endangered species.

During the three-year project period (2023-2026), the feasibility and implementation of extensive grazing will be analysed in detail.

A total of fifteen French and German partners are involved in this cross-border project, which is part of the EU’s Interreg programme.
This includes NABU-Südbaden, which is using recorders from our ecoPi system in the project.

What does OekoFor do?

Our ecoPi recorders are designed to help record biodiversity in grazed areas.
For this reason, the purely acoustic ecoPi recorder was combined with the module for optical insect detection, which is already being used in another project.
(Project “NatForWinsent II”↗)

This combination, the ecoPi:Plus recorder, makes it possible to visually record diurnal and phototactic nocturnal insects and simultaneously record the acoustic environment.
At the moment, the focus is on avifauna. In the near future, however, other species groups that make sounds will also be covered (amphibians and grasshoppers)

In addition, our dashboard in the ecoPi LiveApp gives the NABU team direct access to the live acoustic data and insect recordings.
