What is ProBat & What does OekoFor do?

ProBat is a software tool used to calculate cut-in wind speeds for wind turbines, which serve to protect bats.

ProBat was originally developed by the University of Erlangen. Research carried out within the RENEBAT projects , was fundamental for the development of this software. In these projects, comprehensive investigations were carried out on measures to mitigate bat fatalities at wind turbines. Based on the investigations, estimation models for the avoidance of bat fatalities at wind turbines were developed and tested.

ProBat is continuously enhancing and maintained by us.
The new ProBat version 7.0 went online on 01.12.2020. The tool has thus been converted into a completely web-based form and can be operated with any Internet browser. In addition to a completely new layout, the ProBat app is also equipped with many new and improved features.
In addition, the ProBat-Inspector app has been realized, which makes it possible to quickly and easily check the implementation of the curtailments.

The ProBat & ProBat-Inspector apps offer planners, experts and approval authorities an uncomplicated way to apply the RENEBAT research results and to estimate and minimize the risk of bats being killed by wind turbines or to verify the execution of curtailments.

Partners and Funding Organisations

The further development of the ProBat software was - and continues to be for ProBat 8 - funded by the BfN (German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation) and is coordinated by Naturstiftung David (Nature Foundation David). OekoFor GbR is the contractor of Naturstiftung David. The company Oikostat (Switzerland), complement our work with their statistical expertise.

Some additional features in the ProBat7 and ProBat-Inspector apps were also financed by the Naturstrom Foundation, the SWILD planning office, the Freiburg Regional Council and the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector.
